1.2 - Activity One - Tool Man
ICT may be able to help and change Johns working style as it will add ease to tasks he performs everyday. Such things as PDA, GPS, Laptop, Software, Mobile Phone & The internet can make this possible. With GPS John would be able to work out a route to his clients without the need of using a large road atlas - it calculates the quickest routes to the destination, gives an estimate of the time and distance, Although GPS does not take traffic into account so the actual time could differ depending on traffic. This could be used on a PDA, this would also help with his working style as you will be able to store information such as dates, clients names and adresses - this would save the need to carry a diary and adress book and it would also have the GPS system. As John carries coins for phone - with a mobile he would not need to carry coins as he can store numbers in his phone for his clients and use this as a way of communicating, if he was going to be late to meet his client he would be able to phone and inform them of when he estimates he should arrive. However with this depending on the area the signal may be limited so he cannot contact his clients easily. A Laptop could also help improve as instead of having large catolouge and calculator he could use software on a laptop which provides a way of storing and showing the informtion in the catolouge and there will also be a calculator on the laptop. However - a laptop is rather large itself so would take up a lot of room, another disadvantage is that it is battery powered so if he is in an area where he would not be able to accsess a power source the laptop may run out of battery and John is not able to perform certain tasks. To overcome one way is to bring the catolouges and order forms - however this increases the amount he has to take. With employing a lot of ICT there can be many faults - it may not work or may become slow over time which means he cannot perform tasks at ease.
